Village weekend and other stories

Hello beautiful people,
I hope you guys had a lovely May day. I wish it was 2 days straight *tears* I slept throughout yesterday, and the rain did not even help matters. So everything I planned to do yesterday just didn't happen. SMH!

So on Saturday I travelled to my village for the 40th priestly anniversary of my uncle, known as De Mons in my family. Please don't ask me how that nickname came up. It was a massive celebration, as he's quite well known in these parts. It was also a very emotional return for me, as I got to see so many cousins I haven't seen in so many years. My maternal family is so huge, they can easily form a village on their own, so it was huge, messy, hilarious and absolutely fun. My grandmother who is almost 90 years danced till around 12 midnight! Its so amazing how age has not slowed her down one bit. De Mons was clearly overwhelmed by all the attention showered on him and it was so funny how he basked in it. Sadly, I had to come back to Lagos on Monday morning, but in all it was a wonderful experience.

Last week, I got one of my main obsessions- the urban decay Naked 2 palette! WOOT!!!!!!!!! Anybody who knows me knows how obsessed I am with this palette. When it finally got delivered to my office, I nearly wept for joy (actually, I think I did). I did not sleep that night and when I finally did, I clutched my precious palette as I slept. The price is outrageous when you add shipping fees, but it's totally worth it. I think Urban decay is my new favourite makeup line. The colours are so gorgeous!

I also finally got the MAC ricepaper eyeshadow which I have been lusting after for a very long time. This is such a smooth highlight and I think its so perfect for all skin colours. Just like other MAC eyeshadows, its payoff is excellent!

Lastly I decided to add the NYX Jumbo pencil in Milk to my collection. I have admired the white lined waterline look for a very long time, and this is the perfect pencil to use for the look. It can also be used on the lids to prime a cream coloured eyeshadow. Fab!!!

Oh my days! How can I forget the ever gorgeous Sleek face form (contour kit)? Recently I got into the contouring and highlighting craze and I swear it makes so much difference. This contour kit is the perfect contour palette for beginners like me. Just hit a few contouring videos on you tube and get in the craze!

I love all the recent additions to my makeup bag so GD much. I only have to remember to hide it from my sister who literally takes everything in my bag all at once!

So I get a lot of questions regarding hair breakage. Shedding is NOT the same thing as breakage. Shedding is perfectly normal in the hair cycle, and there's not much one can do to stop hair shedding. Now breakage is another thing all together. I think its the major reason why I was never able to retain length before I shaved my head. My hair was literally breaking as much as it was growing. So I would blame the whole thing on being African. Now I know better *sigh*
Anyway, if you are experiencing breakage the way I was, do not forget to incorporate protein treatments in your hair regimen. The hair is made of protein basically, so it makes sense to strengthen your strands with protein when they are breaking off. You want to look for protein products which contain hydrolysed proteins, as these are the proteins small enough to penetrate the hair and do the job. Some people also swear by home treatments such as mayonnaise and eggs. I have read so many blog posts where the efficacy of the eggs treatment was questioned because the protein in eggs are not hydrolysed (broken down). I would say to try many protein treatments and stick with whatever works best for the hair. Healthy hair journey is basically trial and error, tweaking and testing so many different products and treatments till you find what works best. Personally, I use the aphogee 2 minute keratin reconstructor every now and then. I don't think I need that much protein seeing as my hair is already very thick and hard. This product is just a light protein treatment which I use to balance out moisture levels in my hair.
this is a picture I got from justgrowalready.com explaining  different proteins
P.S I would love to know the beauty products you are loving recently, or if you have used any of the above mentioned.
P.P.S A shed strand of hair would have a tiny white bulb at the root. Hair that broke off wouldn't. Just so you know :))

Have a lovely day.
